Starting Position And Alternatives

Opening cash $1,800; six-month horizon; $3,200 take-home pay, $3,000 essentials and no other planned uses. The illustrative reserve floor is $900. Compare the current plan with a new $400 monthly commitment.

Disclosed Adverse Scenario

The hours-shock scenario reduces pay to $2,400 in months 2-4 and adds a $600 emergency in month 2.

Plan / scenarioEnd cashMin cashFloor monthBelow $0
current / base$3,000$1,800--
current / hours shock$0-$40024
new commitment / base$600$6005-
new commitment / hours shock-$2,400-$2,40023

Interpretation

The current plan ends the shock at $0 but first becomes negative in month 4. Ending at zero conceals the earlier unmet need. The new commitment weakens both cases.

Review Disposition

REVISE the funding and essential-bill plan before adding a fixed commitment. Identify feasible support, expense changes or income options; the ledger does not create them.

Principle Illustrated

Financial stress is not evidence of deficient character. A practical system must work during instability rather than require stability before offering help.
