Starting Position And Alternatives

Opening cash $18,000; twelve-month horizon; monthly take-home pay $5,200, net asset income $200, essentials $3,800, elective consumption $600 and investment transfers $700. The illustrative floor is $11,400.

Disclosed Adverse Scenario

Pay stops in months 2-5. Compare maintaining all planned uses with explicitly pausing the $600 consumption and $700 transfers during those four months.

Plan / scenarioEnd cashMin cashFloor monthBelow $0
unchanged plan / base$21,600$18,000--
unchanged plan / job loss$800-$1,30035
pause elective uses / base$21,600$18,000--
pause elective uses / job loss$6,000$3,9003-

Interpretation

The unchanged plan ends with $800 but becomes negative in month 5. The adaptive plan ends at $6,000 and avoids a negative balance; it still breaches the chosen reserve floor.

Review Disposition

REVISE the interruption plan and reserve policy. The modeled pause is an explicit scenario action, not proof that every elective or investment payment can be canceled without consequence.

Principle Illustrated

A positive year-end balance is insufficient. Timing and flexibility change what can actually be sustained.
